The1.9 jtd is one of the best engines of the era, to my mind still today. I had a 156 with the 1.9 16v version and it was a lot of fun and mostly reliable, I did have the high pressure fuel pump fail on me doing 130 kmh on the outside lane and the repair was around 600€ but had the belts changed as well since you have to get them off anyway.
