I have a 2013 audi s5 that i bought 6months ago. The check engine light is on and p0016 and p0018 codes are on. The mechanic has mentioned it would need a timing chain replacement and the engine has to come out. Can anyone provide any guidance on what should be the average cost of this service.
This is my first Audi with timing chains, but with previous BMWs and MBs the chains are good for 100 to 200k, with tensioners and rails/guides around mid-point between the two. The 3.2 has two chains, but both are single row from what I can tell. Single row chains aren't as strong as the double row ones, so I'd figure on closer to 100-120k. I started knocking out the low hanging fruit on the list of things to check. Pull the cam sensors and clean them. Swap them side to side. Replaced 1 of them. Pulled the cam actuator solenoids and cleaned them. Pulled the crank sensor and checked. Later replaced the crank sensor. Later replaced the cam actuators.
